The Florida Keys are breathtaking year-round, but in autumn, the islands become especially inviting. While the rest of the country might be cooling off, the fun in Florida is heating up. Here in the Keys, we enjoy pleasant weather year-round. If you are planning a fall visit, days will likely range from 75 to 85F. Nighttime temperatures rarely dip below 70F. The water is crystal clear, and the mood is serene. If you’re planning a trip to the Florida Keys, this is the time to do it. Here is what you need to take with you.

What to Pack for a Fall Trip to the Florida Keys

Whether this is your first island vacation or your hundredth, packing can be a chore when you are trying to remember everything you need. Since you don’t want to find out you are missing critical supplies after your arrival, here is what you need to have in your luggage.

Beach Gear

The weather is warm enough to sunbathe, swim, dive, kayak, or engage in one of the hundreds of other beachy activities. Make sure to pack everything you need for a day or week at the beach, including:

  • Swimsuit and cover-up
  • Flip flops or beach shoes
  • Reef-friendly sunblock
  • Towels
  • Waterproof phone case
  • Sunhat
  • Beach bag
  • Beach towels

Water shoes will come in handy for rockier areas, such as John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Because the sun can get intense here even in the fall, you will also need to pack plenty of reef-friendly sunblock. If you are sensitive to the sun, a rash guard can also be a good addition to your packing list.

Other Essentials

Along with your beach essentials, pack light, breathable shirts, comfortable shorts, comfortable walking shoes, and sunglasses. For cooler evenings, add a light cardigan, windbreaker, or hoodie that can easily be layered on and off your outfit.

The rest of your packing list will depend on your planned activities. Add a few nicer outfits, such as collared shirts and khakis, blouses, slacks, or dresses, if you are planning on taking a sunset cruise or romantic dinner. Don’t forget to include a cardigan, wrap, or light jacket to keep you cozy when out on the water.

If you are planning on a lot of sightseeing, you may also want to pack:

  • Comfortable shorts, leggings, or khakis
  • Sundresses
  • Tunics, tee shirts, tank tops, or camis
  • Sturdy walking shoes
  • Crossbody bag or waist bag to carry essentials

Most importantly, remember to pack your sense of adventure for your fall trip to the Florida Keys!
