November is a lovely time to visit the Florida Keys
November might be known for its cold and dreary weather in the rest of the U.S., but November in the Florida Keys is just right. Our days typically range between 70 and 90F, and our evenings rarely dip below 60F. While the haunting fun of October might be over and the holiday activities of December might not yet have begun, there is still plenty of fun to be had in November in the Keys.
Go Fishing
The Keys are an angler’s paradise, and it really doesn’t matter what time of the year you visit. However, November has some especially delightful treats in store. During the fall and winter months, the northern fronts and darker skies bring new options, including blackfin tuna and sailfish. When the sun is shining and the currents are warm, you might just have some luck with bonefish and tarpon. Either way, you’ll get plenty of chances to discover just why Islamorada is considered the sport fishing capital of the world.
Watch a Movie or Several
The Key West Film Festival is perfectly scheduled in the middle of the month. From November 16th through the 20th, the festival, which has counted Mariel Hemingway, Judy Blume, and Marisa Tomei among its past guests, celebrates contemporary cinema and showcases Florida’s best filmmakers. You can participate in various discussions and workshops while supporting local students and engaging with film in a way only possible here in the Keys.
Parley at the Pirate Festival
From November 4-6, Cedar Key will be hosting its annual Pirate Fest, where you can drop anchor and take part in this rousing re-enactment. There will be sea shanties, pillaging, plundering, and even a clam harvest followed by a costume contest, and plenty of pre-holiday cheer for everyone, savvy?
Celebrate the Ocean
Hit up Islamorada on November 12th for the one-day Mote’s Ocean Fest in Islamorada. There will be games, music, food, shopping, and plenty of other events to raise funds for researching and restoring our beautiful reefs.
Go for a Walk
The third Monday in November celebrates art, and residents, visitors, artists, and others gather to enjoy gallery openings with local artists, live music, the best food from Keys’ chefs, and great company.
Sail Away
The Keys offer plenty in the way of sailing, kayaking, canoeing, sunset cruises, and glass-bottomed boat adventures. What sets the Parrotheads Sunset Sail apart is the live music. On this adventure, you’ll join a crew on a catamaran with ample libations, appetizers, and live music against the backdrop of the most beautiful Florida Keys sunset you can imagine. This is how you make memories.
