You can take an eco-tour, go diving or snorkeling, try some fresh Florida Keys food, and stay in one of our real houseboat rentals Tavernier at Mangrove Marina. The options are nearly endless, and many events are free. Here is what you need to know before planning your adventures!
All About REEF Fest
Founded in 1990, the Reef Environmental Education Foundation, or REEF, is based in Key Largo, Florida. It is an international organization committed not just to marine conservation but also to inspiring local communities and getting them active in conservation efforts. Today, REEF has multiple projects in several states, including the Volunteer Fish Survey Project, the Grouper Moon Project, the Invasive Species Program, and the Explorers Education Program.
This year’s REEF Fest runs from October 14th through October 17th. Most events are free, but you are encouraged to register in advance. You can do so here.
There are plenty of exciting activities and events during REEF Fest this year, including:
- Silent Auction and Raffle
- Marine Conservation Programs
- Open House at the REEF Campus
- REEF Sustainers Gathering
- Diving, snorkeling, and Kayaking
- Seminars with Renowned Ocean Experts
- REEF Fest Happy Hour
- Keynote Seminar
- For the Love of the Sea
- Exploring Conservation in the Florida Keys with local REEF Partners
From social events and ocean-themed seminars, you and other guests will have ample opportunity to celebrate your love of all things marine. You can learn about conservation and new ways to get involved during your weekend getaway in the Keys.
While registration is free, you might need to book some special events in addition to ensure your space is reserved. This includes the “For the Love of the Sea” Celebration as well as diving, snorkeling, and kayaking spaces. You can book your tickets for the celebration or reserve your spaces when you register for REEF Fest. Rental dive and snorkeling gear is available through the dive shop and does not need to be reserved in advance.
REEF Fest is following all CDC guidelines and most events are taking place in outdoor areas. Sanitation has been increased, and hand sanitizing stations will be provided for the safety and wellbeing of guests.
