Experience The Florida Keys in a unique way with events that deliver fun for the whole family!
The Florida Keys stretch more than 100 miles from Florida’s tip. While they include more than 800 islands, only 30 are populated. However, they all have plenty to offer for families of all sizes. There’s truly something for everyone here.
Key Largo
Just an hour-and-a-half drive from Miami, Key Largo might just be your first stop. This island has a relaxed, laid-back vibe perfect for weekend getaways or longer vacations. Also known as the Dive Capital of the World, Key Largo is home to the African Queen, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, and the largest artificial reef in the world, the USS Spiegel Grove.
Start your adventures at the Florida Keys Visitor Center, where you can get information on all the best activities in the Keys, including the best beaches, the most exciting water adventures, angling and boat tours, animal encounters, and other attractions.
Islamorada and Tavernier
Islamorada and Tavernier are just a short drive from Key Largo and boast plenty more adventures for you to enjoy. Check out native herons, owls, hawks, and other birds native to the Keys at the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center, or take a cruise on a Tiki Boat. Explore even more animals at Theater of the Sea, where you can get up close and personal with everything from sharks and dolphins to sea lions and alligators.
Just off the coast of Islamorada, you can find the Alligator Reef Lighthouse, which was established in the 19th century. Your family will have fun exploring this site as you try to spot the wreck of the USS Alligator along with parrotfish, barracuda, and lobster.
If dry land is more your speed, check out the Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park, which is home to more than a mile of fossil-filled trails featuring fossilized marine life such as corals.
Islamorada is considered the Sports Fishing Capital of the World, and no trip here would be complete without a fishing excursion. Take your kids on an angling adventure in search of tarpon, sea trout, mahi mahi, mackerel, and snappers. You can cook up their catch for dinner at the barbecue facilities at Mangrove Marina!
Conveniently located in Tavernier, Mangrove Marina is the perfect home base for any Keys vacation. At Mangrove Marina, you can stay in a beautifully appointed houseboat called an Aquavilla. The houseboats are designed for comfort and relaxation and can house even larger groups. They feature decks and patios, fully equipped kitchenettes, comfortable living and sleeping quarters, and TV and wifi. The marina itself is a full-service marina with all the amenities you want and need on a family vacation, including gardens, bicycle racks, laundry facilities, Tiki Huts, barbecue facilities, and a heated freshwater pool.
