Fall Getaway

Florida Keys offer a warm and sunny welcome to visitors all year long. While fall is a bustling time of back-to-school, pumpkin patches, and leaves elsewhere in the country, here in the Keys, we’re still enjoying fresh ocean breezes and bright skies. Now is a great time to plan your fall getaway to the Florida Keys.

Seasons in the Sun

You might not think of South Florida when you think of the changing seasons, but our seasons are distinct. Winter is the dry season with cooler temperatures ranging from the low 60s to mid-70s. You’ll be comfortable in shorts most days but might want to add a hoodie, jacket, or sweater for those cooler nights. While the water might be a bit chilly for swimming, you can still try your hand at fishing. You could catch grouper, grunts, snapper, and more.

By March, temperatures are heating up, often ranging from 70 to 90, and humidity tends to be low. Summer arrives in June, and that’s also the beginning of the rainy season. Temperatures can easily reach 100 and are often not just hot but humid. Spending time on or in the water is almost a must this time of year.

Fall brings a farewell to the rainy season, and temperatures are cooling again, typically ranging from the 70s to the 80s. A favorite time of year for many Floridians, fall can bring rain and humidity, but the summer crowds have largely passed. This means not only smaller crowds but also a more budget-friendly experience. Fall is the off-season, and many restaurants and attractions lower their prices to accommodate.

Drift Away

Whether you’re planning your fall Florida Keys getaway to get away from it all or you’ve got sunny adventures on your mind, this is a particularly fun time of year to check out the Keys. We’re in full celebration mode here starting with Key Largo’s Songfest, which kicks things off from October 6th to the 8th. You can check out more than a dozen live entertainers at one of three live venues sampling from eclectic musical genres. Admission is free!

For a different kind of song, consider birding in the Keys. During the autumn, migratory birds often travel right over the little islands. They drop down and rest before continuing to Central or South America or the Caribbean. Check out Bahia Honda State Park with a detour to the Key West Wildlife Center to see how we’re working hard to protect the animals here, whether they call the Keys home or are simply stopping by for a visit.

You can even get a headstart on the Halloween holiday here in the Keys with ample opportunities to dress up. Key West is a major player here, with Pirate Bash taking place on October 27 and 28 and Fantasy Fest, which is scheduled from the 20th to the 29th and features parades, floats, live music, and promenades.

Of course, you can also enjoy everything else the Florida Keys have to offer, including snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, wildlife watching, and more, and you can do it all from the comfort and convenience of your own houseboat with a private deck.
