Few things can compare in romance to an island getaway. Whether you are planning a honeymoon, an anniversary trip, or a romantic getaway, Key Largo is the ideal spot for your vacation. With warm, breezy, Caribbean weather and plenty of beaches in which to dig your toes, you can spend your days lounging poolside or adventuring on the water. Check out our Florida Keys guide as you plan your Key Largo couples’ getaway.

1. Go on a bicycle ride built for two.

You can explore the beauty of Key West in a lot of different ways, but one of the most enjoyable is on two wheels. Rent a couple of bikes from a local bike shop and check out the colorful architecture dotting this picturesque city. Plan a beachfront picnic or comb the beach for seashells, but look from afar: Many shells are protected by law. Finish your day with a scheduled sunset visit to the Key West Lighthouse, where you can watch the sun sink down over the beautiful keys and enjoy artisanal meats, cheeses, sweets, and wine as well as exclusive access to the lighthouse and its grounds for 90 minutes. For longer biking during your Key Largo vacation, try the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail, which offers 90 miles of trail to ride.

2. Visit the theater.

Dinner and a movie is a classic date night idea, but you can take your theater date to the next level at Theater of the Sea in Islamorada. Not your typical theater, the Theater of the Sea gives you and your partner an opportunity to get up-close-and-personal with some of Florida’s most incredible sea life from dolphins and sea lions to sea turtles and sharks. You can paint with sea lions, swim with rays, feed an alligator, or visit with parrots. No matter what you choose, it will surely make for a memorable Key Largo vacation story.

3. Have an adventure.

No Florida Keys guide would be complete without a visit to the Dry Tortugas National Park. To reach Dry Tortugas, you will need to take a seaplane or boat. Located at the farthest end of the Keys, the park is home to numerous splendors both above and below the seas. Once there, you can snorkel, swim, or just wander among the vast array of life here, including vibrant coral, swaying seagrasses, hundreds of migratory birds, sea turtles, and diverse threatened and endangered species.

4. Sip wine by moonlight.

Sunsets in the Florida Keys are legendary. Is there a better way to watch them than on the water with your partner? Take a sunset cruise as the sun settles in for the evening, splashing the sky with lavish reds, lush purples, and vivid yellows. The gentle waves and soft breeze are just added bonuses as you watch the dolphins and sea turtles play along the surface of the waters. Sip your wine and enjoy a few snacks or sneak a kiss or two while the moon rises. It’s the perfect recipe for romance!

5. Rent a houseboat.
